Everything You Need To Know About Microcurrent

Get lifted brows and more chiseled features without needles or scalpels

There are many miracle products on the market and many miracle treatments that can be applied. Still, microcurrent technology stands out the most when it comes to seeing genuine non-surgical face lifting results. It is safe, incredibly relaxing, easy, and fun to do or have, but most importantly, it actually does work!

Microcurrent dates back to the 1980s, and devices like NuFace are inspired by professional medical EMS (electric muscle stimulation) machines and approved by the FDA to treat Bell's palsy and muscle paralysis. After noticing improved results in patients with atrophied, sagging facial muscles, microcurrent was adopted as an anti-aging tool.

It aids in achieving the look of more prominent cheekbones, tightens up the look of saggy jowls, and can help visibly plump out lines and wrinkles to a certain degree.

What is microcurrent, + how does it work?

It involves using a low-grade electrical current to "train" facial muscles to appear more lifted, tightened, and firm. Its nickname is the "non-invasive facelift," and it's like "sit-ups for your face."

More scientifically, voltage is applied across a conductive material (skin); one end becomes positive (+) and the other negative (-). Current is the movement of the electrons from one end to the other. This movement is measured in amperes or amps (symbol: A). Microcurrent is simply a small number of electrons that move from one end to the other.

Microcurrent treatments are like gym workouts for your face+neck+decollete

The muscles on the face start going south, just like everything else. To keep them firm, we must exercise them, so we use current to stimulate the muscles. We begin with a low current, then gradually increase it until you reach your preferred firmness. Consistency is essential, which means that having a microcurrent facial treatment once a month is sufficient; however weekly treatments will yield effective and faster results.

A microcurrent treatment also acts as a lymphatic drainage massage. By hitting many pressure points on the face and neck, it boosts lymphatic circulation leading to less puffiness in the treated area.

Microcurrent treatments keep skin firm

You will notice a more awakened, plump look; your eyes will appear more open, eyebrows will be lifted, and your forehead will get tighter. As we age, we lose collagen, and since collagen is the main protein the body has to build muscle, it is crucial to boost collagen production. Microcurrent has been shown to encourage the production of ATP (Adenosine TriPhosphate), which leads to the creation of structural proteins like elastin and collagen.

What are the benefits?

  • Toned muscles

  • Toned skin

  • Improved blood and lymphatic circulation

  • Improved product penetration

  • Better skin complexion

Microcurrent is safe, but there are a few exceptions if you currently experience:

  • Pregnancy

  • Heart issues and pacemaker

  • Severe acne. Considering a lot of inflammation is going on, we don't want to stimulate that further.

  • If you've had dermal fillers or botox. We don't want to alter their results, so you should wait two weeks for them to settle before getting a microcurrent treatment. After that period, however, having microcurrent will make botox and fillers work better, and your results will last longer.

At-home microcurrent tools work but are not as strong as professional ones

While younger clients can get away with using at-home microcurrent tools for maintenance, if you are over 50 and want to avoid sagging in your facial area, you need a stronger and professional microcurrent treatment at least 1x per month.

How to succeed with microcurrent treatment

  • Consistency is key to having the best results.

" When your muscles begin to tone up, your face takes on a more sculpted look. It only takes five minutes a day. And, I swear, I'm 41 and I use it regularly and I see great results" Veronika at Ici Paris

  • Pairing professional microcurrent treatments with at-home tools is highly recommended for maximum results.

  • Feeding and protecting the skin with the right products.

Note: Not all microcurrent machines are the same. It is crucial that the microcurrent and voltage operate at a safe operational level and is properly inspected to ensure that everything functions correctly. Every little bit of electricity travels through the skin and tissues differently. Think of voltage as the driving force needed to get the multi-signals to the target tissues. Choose professional at-home devices and do your own research before buying!
